Zombie apocalypse: the aftermath II

BAM! More mutant zombie related awesomeness!

This sequel to “Zombie apocalypse: The aftermath” depicts a hub site where resources are stored and redistributed. Don’t know what I’m talking about? Don’t worry, I’m not entirely sure either. For more on my Zombie apocalypse universe check here: Zombie apocalypse!, Zombie apocalypse: The aftermath.

Unlike a fortress, which is a temporary fortification to protect a mining interest, a hub is a permanent base with living quarters, a lab, a loading bay for dropships and a large storage facility below.

The hub has several defense layers.
The perimeter is defend by a canal (mutant zombies can’t swim very well), fire pits to roast the tenacious bastards, a wall (obligatory) and gun towers.
The base itself has some machine gun posts and grenade launchers as well.

As this is a military base and completely devoid of female sticks (not being sexist, this is entirely coincidental), the male sticks are a bit frustrated and they need ways to blow of some steam. You’ll often find them smoking, drinking and playing games.

The base has some captured mutant zombies to experiment with, so the lab is used to the occasional outbreak. Unfortunately the loading bay is not.

An infected dropship has made it in to the base somehow and the mutant zombies are wreaking havoc in the loading bay area, disabling defense systems with their acid spew and infecting stick soldiers and technicians. Once bitten and infected by a mutant zombie, the DNA is altered almost instantly.

Not much is known about the mutant disease at the moment. Mutant zombies are highly aggressive and agile when it comes to jumping and climbing but they can’t swim for shit. Recent research suggests they are linked through a hive mind or connected to a higher consciousness. This would explain why they sometimes choose to eat or turn their victims and why they attack in groups.

Let's hope these brave sticks can contain the security breach!

Zombie apocalypse: The aftermath

In a post apocalyptic world, few humans remain. But those who do, have organized and adapted, and are building a glorious new human capital. This capital will strengthen what is left of civilization and gather all remaining knowledge and technology into one place, so that the zombies may finally be defeated.

Resources however, cannot be found in one place and must be extracted on site. These well defended sites known as “fortresses” are permanently manned by a small crew. Dropships regularly visit to resupply and transport the extracted resources to hubs, where they can be divided amongst the settlements or taken to the capital.

The fortresses have several means of defense.
The underground corridors have thick walls of reinforced concrete.
The perimeter of the fortress is protected by a heavy razor wire fence which is electrified.
To prevent underground attacks, proximity mines are usually placed around the perimeter.
As a last resort, the tower can flood the immediate area with an extremely corrosive acid which will disable the zombies and make them easier the shoot down.

Oh, the humanity!

This scene depicts a water mining fortress which is being attacked by zombies. Unfortunately someone (I’m not naming any names) has placed a proximity mine too close to the living quarters. A string of explosions has effectively blown a corridor to the outside, and the zombies are flooding in, looking for fresh human blood (or brains or whatever… Maybe they are just looking for love?).

Above ground the crew is loading the dropship and doing the best they can to keep the zombies from coming too close. The fence is doing its job, but the zombies are still getting over, so the tower is hurling its acid all over the place!
With the aid of the well armed dropship, this attack will do little damage.
Underground however, the situation is more dire…

The alarms are going off and everyone is in a state of shock, as no one expected an underground attack. Fortunately some coolheaded sticks are taking care of business. But the zombies are relentless and they will not wait for the sticks to reload…
The emergency protocol is in effect and the steel doors coming down to avoid further loss of the fortress. However, due to a major flaw in design the entire living quarters will be lost, as there are two ladders connecting the four levels. Architects these days, right?

Let’s just hope the dropship has enough room to extract everyone in time… if it doesn’t, it will be every man for himself! (I say every man because the remaining women are in the settlements breeding of course).

Zombie apocalypse!

*narrator voice on*

Locked up for decades and long forgotten, a super race of highly aggressive and dexterous zombies has finally broken out of its prison.

A cold war army experiment gone wrong, the zombies, who were supposed to turn out like super soldiers, were deemed far too dangerous and uncontrollable by command. Having spent millions on the research project which would lead to these events, command was reluctant to destroy the product of its endeavours. It was decided the zombies were to be locked away so that future researchers could continue the project.

The precautions taken to prevent these creatures from ever emerging however, were thought of too fast and too poorly. The cover-up needed to be fast, cheap and discrete.
They were wrong. Wrong to think a few rusty iron bars would hold these terrible creatures.

The base where the project had been buried did have a contingency plan. In case of a breakout, the zombies would have to be held back long enough to place and activate explosive devices which would eradicate the creatures permanently.
This contingency plan, however elegant in its simplicity, turned out to be not so simple in execution.

To create a vertical barrier, several plateaus were constructed between the holding cell and the exit. This way, the zombies would have to jump from one plateau to another. The zombies, however turned out to be far more dexterous and powerful than the researches could have imagined. The base guards soon found themselves overrun...

Zombie apocalypse imminent!

These zombies are pissed off and hungry! Look at the zombie standing in the hole! Scary shit. These things move like “I am legend” –zombies, jumping and climbing their way to freedom and a protein rich meal! You can see them fighting over one of the base guards. And as if their superhuman strength and dexterity aren’t enough, they hurl acid too! These guys never stood a chance.

But what’s that? It looks like some future warriors (from the future) are being teleported in to stop the zombies from breaking out! Equipped with state of the art weaponry and jet boots, they might just be able to turn the tide! The breakout obviously had disastrous consequences if some future government is sending soldiers back in time...

If the zombies are able to defeat the future soldiers, they still have to deal with stick Rambo. And he’s packing a minigun!

Ninja’s guarding an exit is always a good idea. Don’t ask me where they come from, they do seem a bit out of place. But you can never have enough ninja’s around!

Hopefully this colourful bunch is enough to stave off the apocalypse!
