Zombie apocalypse!

*narrator voice on*

Locked up for decades and long forgotten, a super race of highly aggressive and dexterous zombies has finally broken out of its prison.

A cold war army experiment gone wrong, the zombies, who were supposed to turn out like super soldiers, were deemed far too dangerous and uncontrollable by command. Having spent millions on the research project which would lead to these events, command was reluctant to destroy the product of its endeavours. It was decided the zombies were to be locked away so that future researchers could continue the project.

The precautions taken to prevent these creatures from ever emerging however, were thought of too fast and too poorly. The cover-up needed to be fast, cheap and discrete.
They were wrong. Wrong to think a few rusty iron bars would hold these terrible creatures.

The base where the project had been buried did have a contingency plan. In case of a breakout, the zombies would have to be held back long enough to place and activate explosive devices which would eradicate the creatures permanently.
This contingency plan, however elegant in its simplicity, turned out to be not so simple in execution.

To create a vertical barrier, several plateaus were constructed between the holding cell and the exit. This way, the zombies would have to jump from one plateau to another. The zombies, however turned out to be far more dexterous and powerful than the researches could have imagined. The base guards soon found themselves overrun...

Zombie apocalypse imminent!

These zombies are pissed off and hungry! Look at the zombie standing in the hole! Scary shit. These things move like “I am legend” –zombies, jumping and climbing their way to freedom and a protein rich meal! You can see them fighting over one of the base guards. And as if their superhuman strength and dexterity aren’t enough, they hurl acid too! These guys never stood a chance.

But what’s that? It looks like some future warriors (from the future) are being teleported in to stop the zombies from breaking out! Equipped with state of the art weaponry and jet boots, they might just be able to turn the tide! The breakout obviously had disastrous consequences if some future government is sending soldiers back in time...

If the zombies are able to defeat the future soldiers, they still have to deal with stick Rambo. And he’s packing a minigun!

Ninja’s guarding an exit is always a good idea. Don’t ask me where they come from, they do seem a bit out of place. But you can never have enough ninja’s around!

Hopefully this colourful bunch is enough to stave off the apocalypse!

Nuclear raid!

It took a while, but I’m back with another masterpiece! (I got a bit distracted with work lately.)
The scene, which is a base assault, is loosely inspired on James Bond style end scenes. (Also: Hank Scorpio.) To qualify for this particular category, a scene should incorporate several essential aspects.
Here’s a small list:
  • Superweapon: check!
  • Super villain, protected by super bodyguard: check!
  • Escape routes: check!
  • Captured spy: check!
  • Guys with orange helmets prepared to self-sacrifice for the cause: check!
  • Loads of fancy computers: check!

After my last Paint Stick War: Alien Invasion, I decided to switch back to the isometric perspective. It’s just a lot easier than the one point perspective and is much better suited for these kinds of scenes. It has one downside though: you can’t draw ceilings. It’s a shame, because I really wanted to show where the missile would go and how the army would enter the facility through the roof. Nevertheless I really like the result.
But enough with the chitchat, let’s get down to business!

Nuclear launch detected!

Hmm... where to start? We’ll start where the ‘good’ army started: the loading docks. The army has blasted their way into the facility as you can see. The clock says T-59, so the army should be in time to disarm the nuke, provided they win this battle!

Heavily engaged in a shootout, the ground team is struggling to hold their ground. Having already lost some guys, that machine gunner better start sending lead down lane!

While the bad guys may have more advanced weaponry, the army has the edge when it comes to versatility. You can see one stick actually using his mounted grenade launcher! (Check the explosion!) Now you may be thinking: “Why don’t they all use their grenades and end this thing?”. Well, unlike you, these sticks have had years of training in raiding superweapon facilities and have received specific orders not to damage the computers. (There, satisfied?)

As I said before, the bad guys have some sate of the art weaponry: the iconic red laser rifle. (To be revealed in the near future, I’m sure.) However, what really makes them dangerous is their zealous devotion to the cause and willingness to fight to the end!

The ground team has spread out, looking for alternative routes to the main control panel. Some sticks are climbing some boxes to get a better view of the facilit-...
The better option seems to be entering the labs through the newly blasted hole in the wall, or scaling the labs with a grappling hook!

As with all properly prepared raids, the army has chosen a multiple point of entry approach. Dropping in from the rooftop, a small team aims to rapidly control the high ground and end this thing quickly. Sadly, one stick won’t live to regret the fact that he skipped the abseiling course...
Being a proper rooftop raid team, they also have a sniper. Can you guess where he’s aiming at?
The rest of the team is making good progress on the high ground. They can even afford to engage in hand-to-hand combat, just for fun!

Down on the ground, the situation looks less fun. Reinforcements are pouring in (Look at the IT-guy turned soldier, he should have spent more time on the treadmill!) and the good guys are being blasted with lasers. And if that’s not enough, there’s a fully armoured laser sniping, flame throwing guard protecting the super villain, the captured spy being shot at and the clock ticking down!

These guys seem to have underestimated the super villain, outmanned and outgunned... “Damn it, they gave us bad intel! It’s (insert crappy country) all over again!”

However, there might be some hope left. One of the villain’s escape routes has been compromised and infiltrated by some super ninja spies! Using the chaos, they silently kill off the bad guys and may just reach the control panel in time!

Well that’s about it. This one is hard to call...
If the good guys have a decent machine gunner (which is likely) they may gain enough ground.
If their sniper is any good, he may take out the super villain in an anti-climactic way.
If the super ninja spies remain unseen, they may reach the control panel.
That’s a lot of If’s...

Underground experiment

I'm back with a classroom classic: the underground paint stick war!
Everyone, and I mean everyone who drew stick wars back in school, eventually took it underground. It's just common sense really. Wars need bases, bases need cover, best cover is underground. Now I know this is a step back from The Siege and Gang vs. Cops from a technical point of view, but if I was to draw this scene in 3D, it would just give me a massive headache!
I realise there are some  fundamental flaws in the base design. I don't really plan out these things properly, I just draw stuff. I'll be posting a list of flaws and impossibilities concerning the base and the drawing in general, FYA of course.
Enjoy!

Underground base assault.

This is a desert base, so it's reasonably well camouflaged from an aerial point of view. It also has a SAM-site for taking down those nosy UAV's and recon aircraft.

Going down from the bunker on the left, we see some sticks accessing the underground base. the blue thing is some sort of airlock.
In the sleeping quarters, some sticks are just getting up and arming themselves. The guns are designed for CQB (and to be extremely easy to draw in Paint!).

Next we have the reactor room. This room is being hit hard by the intruders as you can see, and the defenders don't really stand a chance here. Remember, they are being completely surprised by this attack. The undertrained, never-before-seen-action guards of this facility are just not prepared. The intruders  clearly have superior technology, shooting purple lasers and all... There's a guy accessing one of the computers to steal data and some guys are carrying in what looks like a nuke!

Right below the reactor room is the fuel storage for the reactor. As you can see, some mutants (loosely based on Aliens) have taken up residence there, munching on the reactor fuel! Sadly for some intruders, these mutants don't take too kindly to the noisy laserblasting invading kind!

The largest room of the base, is the place where the experiments take place. Essential for any selfrespecting underground base is the laser testing site! Don't know where I picked up the idea, but I think it was Half-life or Deus Ex or something like that...

It seems the base is primarily focussing it's recourses on mutant experiments. "Why?" you ask? "It looks cool" I say. This room is also being heavily invaded. The mounted turret is doing it's job tho, but it can't hold them back forever. And even if it could, 2 bombs are already being placed amidst all the chaos. Can you spot them?
There's also a coward, point out that lame ass excuse for a soldier!

The base is pretty much screwed. Successfully mounting a multiple entry point surprise attack, the invaders succeed in planting two small bombs, stealing data and probably will succeed in blowing up half the desert by detonating the nuke!

Just goes to show: always defend your underground base with steel walls and motion mines!

(I promise more dead guys next time!)

War 2.0

This was one of my first stick war drawings. A classic 2D scene, mostly black & white with some special effects. The things I struggled most with were the fire and smoke. I don’t really like how they turned out. The mechanized army is somewhat based on units from Total Annihilation (1997). You may recognize the Thud (artillery) and … (infantry). If you are too young to remember TA (can’t believe I’m saying this), you probably do know Supreme Commander. SupCom wasn’t really a sequel to TA but it was created by the same guy (Chris Taylor) and had very similar features.

War 2.0

The battle itself doesn’t need much explaining I think. It’s basically just a base assault.

The wall/ gate is being hammered by the high powered laser fired by the main mech.

A gunner atop the wall is firing at the first infantry mech.

An armored vehicle is being dispatched from the base to try and take out the main mech, which is shielded of course.

Some defenders are trying to keep themselves from being fried. (Why they are in front of the armored vehicle, I still don’t know…)

The artillery in the back is firing at the base, obviously. Which will result in… Total Annihilation!

There is also a gunship taking of from the base. The battle was too unbalanced, so I added it later. Not really pleased with the result tho…

Also I added some air defense to the main mech. I completely forgot the air defense and couldn’t stand it being destroyed by a mere gunship!

I’d put my money on the mechanized army for this one!
Let me know what you think!
